| Teacher arrested after developing illicit relations with minor student | | | S Tahir-ul-Haq

BARAMULLA, July 8: Angry protesters locked down a school after reports of an alleged molestation bid on a sixth standard student of Government Middle School in Sheikhpora village of Kreeri Tehsil in Baramulla district of North Kashmir onWednesday.
Sources said that residents of Sheikhpora village locked down Government Middle School after the minor was allegedly molested by her school teacher. The teacher was harassing the student from past one month and teacher had developed an illicit relationship with the student, said sources.
On July 8, during vacant period some girls of class V1 approached their male teacher for class work, after which teacher made a girl student to stay back in classroom and asked the others to leave. He allegedly touched her inappropriately, sources said. Sources said the family of girl came to know that the intention of the teacher was not good from the very beginning and that is why today he did such an illegal activity which has not only defamed the teacher but the education department in particular. The teacher, who teaches science subject, inappropriately touched the girl of Class VI several times in past.
The teacher had impressed the student by showing her science question papers in advance. Pertinently the Term first was going on in the School from July 6 which were about to came an end on July 11, they said. They said that after touching her inappropriately, the teacher had told the 12 year old girl that he wants to marry her in future and that is why he had developed an illicit relationship with the girl. According to sources the matter came to light after police came to know about the alleged molestation of girls by a teacher and approached the school and the parents of the girls. However senior official from the education department said that Chief Education Officer Baramulla has put the accused teacher under suspension with an immediate effect and has been attached with CEO's Office Baramulla.
Station House Officer (SHO) Kreeri Abdul Rashid Pukhta, who recorded the initial statements in the case, told Early Times that the concerned school and Parents of the girl have complained with them so on that basis the said teacher was arrested from his house.
Official said that police arrested 25-year-old teacher, Mohammad Ashraf Sofi S/O Ghulam Mohammad Sofi R/O Sheikhpora, employed at Government Middle School Sheikhpora in Kreeri Tehsil on the charges of molesting a 12 year girl of class sixth.
"We have registered an First Information Report (FIR) vide no 42/2015 U/S 354, 354(A) and have started an investigation into the matter," said SHO adding that the accused teacher has been put behind the bars.
