ICDS centres in worse condition; CDPO ensures action against defunct centres

Kathua, July 8: Mid Day Meal scheme may discontinue due excessive number ICDS centers in Kathua district as many of the ICDS centres were opened by blue eyed persons to give benefits to their associates affect their functioning and leaving genuine centres to face burnt of the high numbers of such centres.
Locals alleged that several ICDS centre like Birso Chack, Ballan Pain and other localities are functioning from under construction buildings, unhygienic surroundings, personal houses which could not provide congenial atmosphere to beginners/ toddlers.
"In majority cases only a single room has been hired where joint unhygienic sanitary condition airs smell throughout the room that becomes difficult for students to even enter the room while mismanagement has resulted into serving of unhygienic food to children at these centres," locals alleged.
They alleged, "Many of the ICDS centres can easily be seen closed during working hours but these are mentioned open in attendance registers and CDPO's record, as due payment always got sanctioned every months for such centers reasons better known to the officials at helms of affairs."
Local also alleged that supervisory staffs rarely visit and check ICDS centers while centers are run by helping staffs only. "Huge funds are withdrawn every month with the mission to provide hygienic food besides fundamental education to children from under privileged families but it remains just an eye-wash as officers allegedly make huge money rather than providing facilities in such centers, locals further said..
Expressing concerns over defunct ICDS centers, Deepak Raina, a social activist from Hiranagar demanded strict action against such officials who play with the lives of innocent children.
He further demanded that closure of irrelevant centers and only sufficient centers in selective localities should be opened so that the motive of scheme is achieved. He also demanded proper checking of ICDS centers and due audit of Social Welfare department.
When contacted Jyoti Raina, CDPO Barnoti assured to verify the functioning of pointed out ICDS centers and said proper action will be taken who don't perform their duty properly.
