Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: Forced to leave his five months old job with a Corporate to support his family when both his parents fell chronically ill, Kannav Sharma made Jammu proud when he cracked IAS recently.
Son of a moderately literate Father, who runs a general store at canal road, Kannav Sharma studied at KC Public School and then graduated in Electronics from NIT Srinagar with a gold medal before taking up a job with Mahindra and Mahindra. A stroke of luck however changed the course of life, when his father met with a serious accident and mother fell chronically ill with tuberculosis. "It was in 2011 that I had to give up my five month old job and return home to look after our shop and support my family, being the only son" told Kannav. "After my parents recovered and my sister completed her studies, I went to Delhi for serious preparations for IAS, but my failure in first two attempts forced me to introspect. I began to lose faith in my capabilities, but my family continued to encourage me, which helped me revive my self confidence" he added.
On being asked why he opted for Geography as his subject despite being a B Tech in Electronics, he disclosed that he did not have enough study material available in Electronics, and hence he chose Geography for exhaustive study. Figuring at rank 473 in the merit list of over 1250, Kannav hopes he gets an opportunity to serve his state. "Though I am not sure, but given an opportunity, I shall prefer to serve my people" he said.
