Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, July 8: Resentment is brewing among teachers in Jammu University as a non-academic has been elevated to a top post by vice-chancellor Prof R D Sharma. Insiders told Early Times that a senior professor, who was holding post of OSD, Examination, was recently replaced by a non-academic. "Prof Depanker Sen was holding the charge of OSD, Examination. After he quit, a non-academic Sanjeev Mahajan was elevated to the post of Controller Examination," said the sources. "Elevation of non-academicians to top posts has disappointed the senior academicians who strive hard for the betterment of varsity," said a senior faculty member. He said that despite a number of senior professors available, the vice-chancellor "prefers only those who believe in 'yes boss' culture." Ridiculing recent 'promotion' in violation of laid down norms, sources said that those who have been elevated to these top posts are the known "chamchas" of the vice-chancellor. "It is very unfortunate that despite repeated objections over appointments of underserving people to top posts, the Governor NN Vohra, who is also chancellor of the varsity, preferred silence," said the sources. "If the trend of giving plum posts to undeserving people does not stop, the varsity will soon lose its sheen." It pertinent to mention that since Prof Sharma was nominated as the vice-chancellor, he has been always in news for wrong reasons. "Right from the day he assumed charge, Prof Sharma has awarded prize postings to those who already hold charge of more than one posts," said the sources. |
