Troops asked to check IS ingress into JK | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: Besides the army, the state and the central Governments are worried over the possible rise of IS in Pakistan occupied Kashmir areas which had the potential of derailing peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that the IS was trying to establish its foothold in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and once it materialized Government agencies especially the Pakistan army would try to push these IS militants into Jammu and Kashmir. Islamic State (IS) is trying to gain a foothold in Pakistan administered Kashmir, a senior army official has stated."Whatever inputs we have, IS has not taken in a major way, but they are definitely trying to gain foothold in the area (PAK)", according to senior Army functionaries. Official sources said that the success of IS setting up its unit in Pakistan occupied Kashmir depended on the victory of the ISIS in gaining ground in various countries, including Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Egypt and other Islamic countries. These sources said that hitherto terrorists belonging to Taliban, whether from Pakistan or Afghanistan,or those belonging to Al Qaeda had failed to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. Their failure to cross into Jammu and Kashmir was the result of better border management by the Indian army and the BSF on the LOC and on the International Border in the state. It was a healthy change from the situation that was witnessed between 1990 and 1995 when groups of foreign mercenaries including those from Pakistan, Afghanistan,Sudan and Chechnya crossed into Jammu and Kashmir to assist the local boys in raising the level of violence in the state. As a result of pressure mounted by the Indian security forces majority of these foreign mercenaries crossed back to Pakistan after scores of their associates were eliminated by the Indian troops. Some of the foreign mercenaries were killed in clashes with local militants. It is in this connection that troops, guarding the LOC and the BSF deployed on the International Border in Jammu sector have been asked to further upgrade the border management so that not a single militant was able to cross into Jammu and Kashmir. Troops have been told to ensure that all loopholes on the LOC were plugged so that no IS terrorist was able to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. It is feared that once IS established its foothold local boys may enroll themselves in the IS which has achieved a status better than the Taliban and the Al Qaeda after the ISIS have fought pitched battles with Government troops in various Islamic nations. |
