Early Times Report

Jammu, July 18: Minister of State for Culture Priya Sethi has said that Rs 30 lakhs have been released for the pending renovation of Abhinav Theatre, Jammu and sooner the rest of the amount too would be released to make it functional.
She said that for Tagore Theatre Srinagar, a sum of Rs 35 lakhs has been released. "I am taking up the cause of the art of both the regions vigorously since I also carry a great passion for art and culture. I have talked to my minister for the release of the remaining amount and soon it will also be released for both the theatres in Jammu and Srinagar," said Priya Sethi while talking to Early Times.
Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas had few days back said that the centre has released the entire amount needed for the renovation of both the halls in Jammu and Kashmir and it is up to the state government only to release it to the agencies deputed in their renovations.
Priya Sethi had recently inspected the ongoing repair and renovation work at Abhinav Theatre Jammu and Tagore Hall Srinagar.
Describing education and culture as two important parameters of development economics, Sethi said that the cultural ministry of the state is exploring the possibility of having inter-state cultural exchange programmes and would also facilitate visit of artists to various parts of the country.
The MoS culture too had one-on-one conversation with Aziz Hajini, who recently took over as secretary Jammu and Kashmir academy of art, culture and languages, the post that had been vacant for nearly two years.
"Yes, we are on war foot programme to complete the pending renovation work of Abhinav theatre and I am quite hopeful of completing it within one month's time," said Aziz Hajini, adding , " the unfortunate seepage of water in art gallery and regional office due to rains has hampered the work".
Hajini said he is in constant touch with government and sooner will get the damage rectified.
Association of Rational Theatre Seekers (ARTS) president Mushtaq Kak who has been vigorously pursuing the cause of renovation of Abhinav theatre has expressed his gratitude to MoS Priya Sethi and Academy secretary Hajini for prompt action on the long pending demands of the theatre doers of the state .
