Inspector spills beans of embarrassment: 'SSP took 2 lacs for posting as SHO' | | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, July 18: A Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has been accused of taking Rs 2 lakh from an Inspector on the promise of posting him as Station House Officer (SHO) Chenani. The allegation has been levelled by one Nagina Begum, mother-in-law of Inspector Javid Iqbal in her letter to Director General of J&K Police, K. Rajindra Kumar. The letter has surfaced in the backdrop of news report titled 'Tainted cop turns Dabang, suspended', which appeared in Early Times. She has alleged that SSP Udhampur Suleman Choudhary took Rs 2 lakh from Inspector Iqbal to post him as SHO Chenani,. but in place of Inspector Iqbal, Inspector Mahesh Sharma was posted as SHO Chenani. Following Sharma's posting, Inspector Iqbal and his mother-in-law went to the SSP office to take the money back. "Actually SSP demanded Rs 5 lakh for the posting, but Rs 2 lakh was given to him as an advance. We went to the SSP office, but instead of returning the money, the SSP started shouting on Iqbal in presence of some staff members," Nagina alleged. The SSP had allegedly expressed his inability to post Inspector Iqbal as SHO Chenani on the plea that he had been ordered by some politician to post only a Hindu officer as SHO. Inspector Iqbal has also alleged that he was harassed and targeted merely on the basis of community affiliation. "What was my fault if I belong to the Gujjar community?" he asked. He said he was subjected to harassment, forcing him to tender his resignation, even after completing half of his service tenure in the Police. The cop also sought time from DGP to narrate the story "with evidence about the happenings going on in district Udhampur." However number of attempts to contact SSP Udhampur for comment went in vain. Meanwhile DGP K. Rajendra when contacted said that he had not received complaint as yet. |
