Jammu, July 18:Jammu, July 18: Three projects sanctioned under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for the Sericulture Department of J&K are still hanging in the balance. The government of India sanctioned the three projects at an estimated cost of Rs 115 lakh. "But the Sericulture Department has utilized only Rs 31 lakh till date," sources told Early Times. The three projects were sanctioned under the Centre-sponsored scheme. The first project-construction of rearing houses-was estimated to cost around Rs 27 lakh, while the supply of rearing kits project was estimated to cost around Rs 22 lakh. The third project was the propagation of exotic high yielding mulberry varieties whose estimated cost was Rs 66 lakh. But only Rs 2.20 lakh has been utilized till date, while Rs 30.74 lakh was spent on 29 persons from various districts of J&K who went outside the state for studying how to rear silkworm. The Sericulture Department distributed Rs 11.34 lakh among 49 beneficiaries for rearing kits across the state while Rs 16.50 lakh was distributed among 102 beneficiaries for CGI sheets as roofing material of the rearing houses. Deputy Director Sericulture, Jammu, blamed paucity of funds for the delay in execution of the three projects. "The work on rearing house project is going on and is likely to be completed soon," he said.
