| Modi came and saw but fails to conquer hearts of people of J&K | | | BEHIND THE VEIL

JAMMU, July 18: Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, came to Jammu..He saw the state's winter capital..He,however,could not conquer the hearts of those whose property had been damaged by floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2014.
It is not known which agency and who had built an euphoria around the proposed visit of Prime Minister,Narendra Modi,to Jammu on July 17.Initially reports surfaced that he will visit Jammu and Srinagar.In Jammu he will preside over birth centenary celebrations of senior Congress leader,Girdhari Lal Dogra,and in Srinagar people were made to believe that he was to host an Iftihaar party.
Later it was reported that Modi was scheduled to announce a hefty financial package for the state.Part of the package was meant for relief and rehabilitation of flood hit people,part of the package was meant for increasing power generation and the rest was for road development programme.
Another report said that the Prime Minister was to announce a package of Rs.one lakh crore.Another report said that he was to announce a financialo package of Rs.70,000 crores.Yet another report had stated that Modi was to announce grant of Rs.30,000 crores for building power projects and for road const ruction programme.
A large number of civilians,political leaders and bureaucrats had started tabulating whether the central financial package was Kashmir or Jammu centric.It meant whether the region of Jammu received more funds than the Kashmir valley or the vice versa.
And the Friday's development in Jammu indicated that Prime Minister was to visit Jammu for less than an hour simply to preside over the centenary celebrations of late G.L.Dogra who happens to be the father-in-Law of Union Finance Minister,Arun Jaitley.
Reports did surface in Jammu over the possibility of Modi announcing central Government's sanction for setting up one AIIMs in Jammu.Yet another report had put a question mark. Will Moldi's announcement on AIIMs for Jammu provide tonic to BJP in Jammu region where it has started suffering severe erosion in its vote bank ?
And Modi disappointed those who were readying themselves for raking up the issue of regional discrimination because he did not announce any financial package.He did not refer to the ongoing financial stringency facing the state.He made ano nnouncement regarding AIIMs for Jammu.
And the state unit of the BJP,.which had been looking forward to Modi's visit to Jammu for bailing out the partyh in distress,stands crestfallen.Still its leaders hope that the centre would announce AIIMs for Jammu.
Instead of announcing financial package and AIIMs Modi talked of sons-in-law.He lavished praise on G.L.Dogra's son-in-law,Arun Jaitley,who,he said,has rose to the rank of cabinet minister through hardwork,honesty and integrity.While doing so he had a di at the Congress President,Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law,Robeert Vadra,who continued to be entangled in shady land deals.
Narendra Modi took a dig at the culture of dynastic politics and appeared to target Congress by taking a veiled swipe at Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra who is embroiled in controversies over his land deals.He also disapproved of political untouchability, saying the national heritage should not be divided and all leaders who have worked and died for the nation should be given equal regard irrespective of their ideologies and affiliations.
He noted that Dogra was Jammu and Kashmir's tall leader who had presented 26 Budgets as Finance Minister of the state but never did any favours for his family members, including his son-in-law Arun Jaitley, now the union Finance Minister.
Chief Minister,Mufti Sayeed,may have felt disheartened over Modi's silence on financial package.When shall the central Government announce the financil package ? This is a million dollar question bothering the mind of people,political leaders and bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir.
And Modi should know it that without financial package and AIIMS for Jammu the BJP may lose its political weight in the region of its influence which is Jammu. He should know that without hefty financial package neither the RSS nor the BJP can make any inroads in the Kashmir valley.
