Shocker! JU official buys books worth Rs 40K for doctor daughter from varsity fund | VC calls for meeting on Monday | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, July 18: A top official of Jammu University has created a record of sorts by purchasing books worth Rs 40,000 for his doctor daughter. The varsity has withheld the payment of supplier, though. Insiders told Early Times that Director of CDC, JU, Jai Kumar allegedly forced the Chief Librarian to purchase the books for his daughter who is pursuing post-graduation in surgery from ASCOMS, Sidhra, Jammu. "The orders for purchasing books were placed under pressure of the then Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor a month ago," said sources. They said the matter came to light when the Joint Registrar (Finance) refused to clear the payment. "The Chief Librarian approached the Joint Registrar Jatinder Khajuria who however refused to sign the bill," said sources. Khajuria immediately brought the matter into VC's notice. "An infuriated VC Dr R D Sharma has summoned a meeting to discuss the matter with senior administrative functionaries and faculty members. The meeting is likely to be held on Monday," sources said. They said it was not an isolated case where varsity money was diverted or misused by top officials of the university for their personal benefits. When the incumbent VC took over, he had announced a 'war against corruption'. "Unfortunately, during his tenure nepotism and corruption has increased manifold in the varsity," the sources added. |
