Mufti, Omar embrace each other at Hazratbal after Eid prayers | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 18 : People of Kashmir along with rest of Muslim world Saturday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr after a month-long fasting with religious fervor and gaiety. On this occasion, congregations were held in mosques and shrines across Valley with people enthusiastically offering Eid prayers, praying for peace and prosperity in the region. The biggest Eid congregation was witnessed at Srinagar's Hazratbal Shrine where Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his predecessor Omar Abdullah joined more than 60,000 devotees in offering Eid prayers, officials said. The two leaders, who belong to the rival political parties, also exchanged Eid greetings and embraced each other. Eidgah Srinagar witnessed second largest congregation with around 50,000 people offering Eid prayers on the sprawling grounds. Officials added that more than 25,000 people offered prayers at Polo Ground in the city while smaller gatherings were recorded at all major shrines and mosques in the Valley. Large congregations were also held in Baramulla, Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara and other districts headquarters as well. Meanwhile, thousands of people who offered Eid prayers at Hazratbal shrine had a pleasant moment of delight when they saw Muti Sayeed and Omar Abdullah exchanging Eid greetings and embracing each other like two close friends. Sources said that as the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers concluded at Hazratbal, Mufti Sayeed walked over to Omar Abdullah and both embraced each other. Both the leaders prayed for peace and prosperity in Kashmir and in the region. |
