'Strong man' PM Modi should seek results from Mufti: Lt General (Retd.) Hoon

CHANDIGARH, July 18: Lieutenant General PN Hoon (Retired) on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should ask Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to initiate tough action in wake of the recent incidents of repeated ceasefire violations and waving of Pakistani and ISIS flags.
"Why should the issue be now taken seriously? They have been doing this for a long time. Who are they? They are the people, who are sympathetic to PDP. Though it is our Chief Minister's responsibility to control, it's a state subject. Has he got the guts to get out and get his police? The moment the police go, they shoot them down. What is the PDP doing?" Lieutenant General (Retired) Hoon told ANI here.
"I think the time has come that our Prime Minister who is a very strong man should tell him to either give them the results or get out. Where is the problem in saying that?" he asked.
In yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistan, there was unprovoked firing from the other side of the border at two posts in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector along the Line of Control earlier today.
This is the fifth ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the last three days.
Geelani and several other separatist leaders have been put under house arrest in the city.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and ISIS flags were waved in Srinagar as protest against hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's detention.
The police personnel had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the protestors, who pelted stones at the men in uniform, to vent their ire over Geelani's house arrest.
According to reports, Geelani was not allowed to offer prayers in a mosque on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr as he remained under house arrest since his return from New Delhi on April 15.
