Govt blamed for not appointing board of directors | Work on 1000 MW Pakal-Dool project delayed | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Aug 5: Work on 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Hydro Electric Power Project to be constructed in Kishtwar district has got delayed after the government failed to appoint board of directors in Chenab Valley Power Project (CVPP) Corporation Limited. President of the Contractor Association Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmed Mintoo said the people of Kishtwar and its adjoining areas have been waiting anxiously for start of work on the power project as it would provide employment to hundreds of local youth and benefit the area. He said it has come to the notice of the Contractor Association that Government of India has already approved the construction of the power. "But due to inefficient handling of the matter and delay in appointment of directors for board of CVP, the work has been delayed," Mintoo told Early Times. "The state government should wake up and take decisive steps with regard to early start of project by awarding the contract to the bidders. Everything is ready with CVPP; however it is not clear why the Power Development Department is not awarding the work which is the only hope to local unemployed youths and the contractors for revival of fortunes of Kishtwar," said Mintoo. He said that people of Kishtwar feel that the present government is not bothered about the development of Kishtwar and is not giving attention towards this region of the state. "Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Assembly election campaign had promised early start of the project. But state government is sleeping over the issue," said Mintoo. He also flayed what he called step motherly treatment given to Kishtwar by the state government, particularly by the BJP. He said in case the construction on the Pakal-Dool project fails to take off, it will also diminish the hope for start of work on other projects like 650 MW Kwar, 580 MW Kirru, 450 MW Karthi I & II and other power projects. He said that in case the government fails to start work on the Pakal-Dool project by the end of August 2015, the Contractor Association along with local people would launch a mass agitation. He said he has also written a letter to Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, urging them to take immediate and necessary steps to ensure early start of work on the Pakal-Dool project. |
