AIIMS in Jammu: With peoples' over-whelming support Early Times campaign yields results 8/6/2015 1:00:32 AM Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 5: With the notification issued by the Union Health Ministry in which Jammu and Kashmir Government is advised to identify land for setting up AIIMS at Jammu and Kashmir regions respectively is indeed a victory of the campaign started by the Early Times against discrimination with Jammu region. It is over-whelming support of the people of entire Jammu region that campaign launched by your' paper reached to the successful conclusion with Union Government giving its nod to set up similar AIIMS in Jammu region like Kashmir. During Governor's address to joint sitting on March 17, it was mentioned in the document that AIIMS would be set up in Kashmir Valley. "We thank the Central Government for announcing the setting up of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the Valley and the establishment of an IIT and an IIM for Jammu", as it was stated in Governor's Address which was delivered by Governor N N Vohra on March 17. In its March 20 edition, it was the Early Times which raised the issue of ignoring Jammu region in sanctioning AIIMS. It was mentioned that it was long pending demand of the people of Jammu region to get AIIMS because medical facilities are only of names of Jammu while Kashmir has well-established institutes like SKIMS. In Kashmir Valley there are world class health facilities but in Jammu province most of the hospitals are beset with infrastructure deficit. As soon as the Early Times kicked start campaign against discrimination with Jammu region, people gradually started joining the stir. Initially some political leaders issued their statements against discrimination with Jammu but very soon members of the Jammu Civil Society also joined the campaign which in the month of April virtually turned into a movement to restore dignity and honour of Jammu region. The BJP leadership also woke up from the deep slumber and realized that a blunder has been committed by those who were involved in drafting Agenda for the Alliance and Governor's Address.
