JK lacks special training institutes | | | Shiv Dev Thakur
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 24: The absence of institutes to teach special students in Jammu and Kashmir might be a reason for the non- promotion of the special teaching courses at the college level. There is not even any course run by the university of Jammu for imparting special education to the differently abled as it is needed to get special trainings to teach them. Sources claimed that the differently abled students can be seen going to any of the locality in rural as well as urban areas, but "is there any special school to teach them or, are the teachers deputed to teach have the special skills? The state, it is in place to mention here has not established special schools nor has it launched any special course to for the special children. However, a private college trains the teachers to teach the special child. Rohinica Sharma, HOD MIER College of Education said that MIER is the only institution to hold BEd in Special education and the youth of Jammu are paying less attention to the course owing to the fact that the youth of Jammu is much more concerned about the career oriented courses. She added that a lot requires to be done in the direction of the identification, education and rehabilitation of the mentally retarded as the special schools as well as teacher training institutes should be opened on Government setups so as to train the teachers too to handle such students. She further said that the students from all over the nation are coming to seek admission in the BEd special course but the situation is different in the state. She added that from past few years only few students from Jammu joined the Special teachers training course. |
