Despite minister's assurance, Alamdar Colony continues to suffer | | | Early Times Report
Budgam, July 24: Notwithstanding Minister for PWD (R&B) Altaf Bukhari's express orders and issue of tenders by the concerned, the work on dilapidated road at Alamdar Colony Gopalpora in Budgam district has not begun. The link road at Alamdar Colony was completely damaged during the winter season early this year due to heavy accumulation of water. As there is no drainage system in this large residential colony, the R&B authorities from Chadoora division dug a make shift drain to ensure water drainage. The drain is yet to be fixed and this has resulted in serious problems to the commuters. Locals say that even two small vehicles cannot pass through the colony. " We have been trying to highlight this issue but nobody pays any attention towards us. More than a month ago Minster for PWD (R&B) Altaf Bukhari himself intervened when some respected citizens of the area brought this matter into his notice. The minister called Chief Engineer PWD Kashmir who directed the Executive Engineer R&B division Chadoora to undertake repairs in our colony , but inspite of his orders the R&B division Chadoora has not undertaken the work " said Syed Arshad Hussain a member of local Panchayat. Arshad alleged that R&B authorizes in order to appease PWD (R&B) Minster are only doing developmental work in neighboring areas of Amira Kadal constituency which is represented by Altaf Bukhari himself and falls under jurisdiction of R&B division Chadoora. The inhabitants of Alamdar Colony Gopalpora had earlier urged the government to include their area in master plan and register it in Srinagar Municipal Corporation because 700 plus families are putting up in the Colony and most of the residents actually belong to various parts of Srinagar and its adjoining areas. The Colony has a population of around 3500. The problem with it is that it is not registered and doesn't include in Master Plan as it is not falling under the jurisdiction of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). According to them, the developmental works in the area are to be executed by Rural Development Department, but due to non-availability of land and alleged indifference of concerned officials, these works especially under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act are not being executed. "We have three Panchayat wards in Alamdar Colony and three Panchs were elected few months back. There are funds available under NREGA with Rural Development Department, but there is no land to execute the schemes. We don't know what to do,"said Bashir Ahmad a local resident. When Eary Times correspondent saw heaps of garbage on the roadside as there are no dustbins available in the area. The garbage colleting van doesn't come to the area as this colony does not fall under the jurisdiction of SMC. The locals have appealed PWD (R&B) Minister to come to the area so that he personally looks into the genuine grievances of the people. |
