9/7/2015 11:57:16 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, Sept 7: In the first week of September last year, the tin roof of Government Middle School (GMS) at Budhal was blown up in thunder storms followed by torrential rains.
Since then more than 130 students and staff members of GMS Budhal have been waiting for the repair of the roof of the school building but concerned officials including Chief Education Officer (CEO) haven't bothered to mitigate the problems being faced by the students as well as the staff who were forced to conduct classes in the open or in the rooms without roofs.
The students of this school, who are forced to observe holidays whenever the rain comes have also held several protest demonstrations against the Education Department vis-a-vis Education Minister and requested him to visit their school to feel the difficulties they are facing.
Pertinently and as per official records 164 school buildings in the entire Rajouri district were damaged partially/ severely in the first week of September last year. Out of which 29 buildings were fully damaged.
No repair/ reconstruction have been carried out till today to make these school buildings safe for the students due to non-availability of funds from State as well as from Union Government.
"Out of Rs 12551.97 lakh worth funds required for immediate restorations of government infrastructures including school building damaged in the month of September 2014, district administration has received only Rs1898.00 lakh till August this year and that was spent on the restorations of roads, bridges, electric transformers, PHE schemes, irrigation and Flood Control schemes etc." said Chief Planning Officer (CEO) AH Chowdhary.
Prominent people of the area including Mohd Rafiq, Ghulam Din and parents have criticized the functioning of the Education Department and demanded immediate repair of the school building so that students don't suffer any further as the area falls under winter zone and final examination will be held in the month of December.
While talking to some reporters SDM Kotranka-Budhal, Sukhpal Singh said that after the availability of funds priority will be given to repair the roof of this school building.
