Early Times Reports

Jammu, Oct 22: The decision of Jammu University to disband the system of engaging contractual lecturers as usual and replacing it with outsourcing of teachers on lecturer basis has adversely affected the quality of teaching especially of students attending Personal Contact Programme of B.A. Part III in Distance Education Department which is not a dependable arrangement.
A copy of Time Table which is in the possession of Early Times reveals that teachers engaged through outsourcing by the Course Coordinator are not sticking to the schedule and show reluctance to attend the class work. The whims and vagaries of Course Coordinator has led to fudging of the Time Table which indicates that the teacher engaged to teach music class was Prof. Usha Bhagati as per the approved schedule by the Competent Authority but she left the teaching work after three four days and was replaced by Asha Rani by tempering the official document by hand writing without approval of the competent authority of DDE.
Similarly in the subject of statistics, one Dr Mohinder Pal was engaged but on his refusal Dr Rashpal Singh made his entry by making handwritten entry. The students of B.A. Part III informed Early Times that due to these reasons, they are suffering badly as sometimes they have to sit in the class room without a teacher scheduled to teach them which has become a mockery and wastage of their time. Even the Time Table has been framed in such a clumsy manner that the period of Geography and Statistics for the students studying both the subjects has been scheduled at the same time which has compelled the students either to attend Geography or Statistics class, the students rued.
The students told Early Times pleading anonymity that the new adhoc system is not a dependable and against their interests as they were very comfortable in receiving class room instructions without interruption in last session when there was a regular arrangements of the University by putting contractual lecturers in place. The sources further informed that the time period of class is 40 minutes, but the teaching work is often being done for 15 to 20 minutes and sometimes no one is coming to take the class which is putting the students in a great hardships and wastage of their time. It was alleged that there is no proper list of teachers which has been put to scrutiny in terms of teaching capability and established credentials of the teacher who are to be engaged through outsourcing. Rather only hit and trial modus-operandi is being adopted by the Course Coordinators to please their blue eyed at the cost of academic career of the DDE students.
