Pak targets 9 BoPs of BSF in Samba sector, firing damages houses, crops; kill cattle in Hiranagr

Kathua/Samba, Oct 24: Almost after a month the Pakistan Rangers suddenly resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling along International Border (IB) in Samba and Hirnanagar sectors of Jammu region unleashing panic and insecurity among the border people in both sectors. Atleast one civilian was killed and three others got injured in the Friday evening firing when Pak Rangers breached truce along IB twice.
Pakistan resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling at nine (09) Indian Border Outposts (BoPs) and civilian areas in Samba district resulting into death of one civilian and injuries to three others.
"The injured have been identified as Surinder Singh s/o Balbir Singh R/o Mawa, Rohit Kumar s/o Ramesh Kumar R/o Sajanpur Punjab presently Mawa and Surat Singh S/o Karpa Ram of Mawa," a police sources said here today.
They said the Border Security Force (BSF) troops retaliated effectively to the firing from across the border by Pakistan Rangers in which a school bus, mini bus and tractor trolley also got damaged while three cattle were perished besides some houses suffered partial damages, sources said.
During the cross Border firing three cows belonging to Kalu Ram S/o Shankar Dass R/o Mawa were perished while one house owned by Ram Pal S/o Hans Raj R/o Vilage Mawa suffered damages after a shell landed on his house. Meanwhile a mini bus (JK02AP- 2395) owned by Pritam Singh S/o Puran singh R/o Mawa got completely damaged due to heavy mortar firing by Pak Rangers last night.
"Pak Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts along the IB in Samba sector from 2025 hours last night," a BSF official said here today, adding own troops (BSF) had gave befitting reply to Pak firing.
He said that the firing from Pak Rangers spread across the nine BoPs of BSF along IB in areas between River Basantar and River Treva in Samba sector and they used 82mm and 51 mm mortar bombs at few places along the IB. "The exchange of fire continued till 0220 hours today, he said, adding that there was no loss of life to BSF troops.
Meanwhile reports from Kathua also added that Pakistan rangers suddenly opened fire against Indian posts on International Border at village Bobiya Hiranagar sector killing two cattle and injuring several others besides damaging to standing crops and houses in frontier villages.
The forward villages in Hiranagar sector were gripped under panic when Pak Rangers resortedto unprovoked firing in Bobiya area of Hiranagar on intervening night of Oct 23-24.
While interacting to media persons, one Tarsem Singh said the shelling started at 11:15pm when people were sleeping. He said two animals were killed instantly whereas several got injured.
He said Pakistan continued to target civilian areas with the aim to create panic in the frontier areas along International border. Singh lamented both union and state governments made promises to work for the welfare of border people but nothing has been done till day.
Vinod Kumar, a farmer from border village in HIranagar said most of the villagers depend on agriculture land but they can't practice the usual farming due to frequent ceasefire violations and are facing fincaila problems.
He also rued that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) during parliamentary and assembly polls had promised to allot 5 marlas plot to each family living along IB and even Dr Jatendra Singh MP Kathua-Udhampur officially had announced plots in safe place on the behalf of PM but nobody knows the fate of those plots in safer areas.
Subash Singh, a social activist of area also reiterated the same tones and said state and union governments must take steps to allot 5 marlas plot in safer areas at earliest. He said firing from across the border is not only hampering normal life in border villages but also isd taking toll of studies of students.
When asked about 5 marlas plot for each family to MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Raj, briefly said that matter is pending with the union government. He also reiterated that BJP always has raised voice against ceasefire violation at international level and sufferings of the border people.
MLA Hiranagar also said district administration has been instructed to ready for migrant camps if the situation turned from bad to worst on IB.
