Srinagar, Oct 24: The higher reaches of Kashmir Valley viz. Gulmarag and Sadna Top in north Kashmir received season's first snowfall on Saturday while plains including Srinagar received rain sliding the mercury down.
A senior MeT Official said that many places in upper reaches in Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north experienced season's first snowfall.
"From Yesterday afternoon Western Disturbances (WD) were active in the region, due to which there was moderate to rather heavy rain or snow at most places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, the official told early Times. As predicted by the weatherman, the upper reaches in the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall while plains, including Srinagar had rain, disrupting normal life again.
"Temperature at famous ski-resort Gulmarg dropped to minus 0.5 Celsius whereas Srinagar recorded 6.30 C and also received a 1.9 mm rainfall, weatherman said, adding, "while Pahalgam received 1.4 mm rainfall and its upper reaches were covered by snow." MET Officials also added that temperature in Kupwara plummeted to 5.7 and the region also received 10 mm rain while Gateway to Kashmir, Qazigund, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.70 Celsius. Reports from Gulmarag said that the upper reaches in the ski resort, including Kongdori, Affarwat, and the highest skiing point and Khilanmarg received moderate to heavy snowfall.
With fresh snowfall in Gulmarg, tourists and locals arrived in large numbers to enjoy snow whilst tourists enjoy skiing at world famous tourist resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Saturday.
They further added that many tourists were delighted to witness the snowfall as some of them were eagerly waiting to experience skiing on the slopes.
Meanwhile upper reaches in the north Kashmir, including near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara and Bandipora also reportedly received fresh snowfall.
Rains and snowfall have brought the day temperature considerably low with people wearing woolens to shield the cold while city roads again were seen inundated just after rains which lashed Srinagar.
