Govt warned of an agitation if migrants' sufferings aren't mitigated soon | KPs take umbrage at denial of ration coupons, RBA certificates | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: The failure of government to provide the one-time ration coupons to migrant relief holders coupled with delay in implementation of Prime Minister's employment package and denial of RBA status to migrants from RBA areas in Kashmir Valley has generated a lot of resentment among the displaced people putting up in Jammu and other parts of the country. Taking serious exception to discriminatory policies of the government which even continued during the PDP-BJP coalition rule, the Kashmiri migrants feel totally neglected by almost all political parties. Annoyed over the role of the Relief Ministry towards the displaced people, the state BJP Displaced Unit has also warned to launch an agitation. The BJP Displaced Unit leaders while taking up the issue with the government and ministers have warned agitation in case the sufferings of migrants were not mitigated at an earliest. It demanded settlement of all demands including restoration of RBA certificates to the displaced Pandits. The displaced unit of BJP as well as other migrant organizations while expressing their resentment over the discriminatory attitude of the Relief Department said that they are left with no alternative but to take to streets. Criticizing the government for not releasing one-time ration coupons to migrants, the Displaced Unit leaders said the decision is totally discriminatory towards a particular community. Muslim and other migrants from Valley have already been issued one-time ration coupons by the Relief Organization while the migrants are issued the coupons after every month which was not a practice in past. This way the migrants have to waste days together for seeking ration coupons which is not practicable for those who are doing private jobs as they do not get time for the same. The delay in implementation of PM's employment package and denial of RBA certificates is also cause of concern among the Kashmiri migrants and they want immediate solution of these long standing issues. The migrants while turning tables on the government said the status of displaced people has not changed with their migration but it deteriorated as they lost their income and other means of livelihood. The migration has put many challenges to migrants who lost their source of income and have to fend for themselves. Terming it a total discriminatory and anti-Pandit attitude the migrants said their status has not increased but decreased due to the mass exodus and if the community is part of Kashmir then why does government hesitate to give them the same benefits to which the majority community is entitled. The migrant organizations say that displaced Pandits are not enrolled as voters in Jammu nor allowed to seek a government job here on the plea that they belong to Kashmir and when the migrants demand benefits which are given to majority community of the Valley they are denied the same on the plea that they are not putting up in Kashmir. This is a serious issue and perhaps the part of a sinister design to deprive migrants of their due, and willingly or unwillingly the BJP which earlier had championed the rights of displaced people from Valley is also becoming a part to it. |
