EARLY TIMES REPORT
Rajouri, Oct 24: A large number of locals from Budhal and its adjoining areas held a protest against the State Government and local administration on Friday alleging that for the last few months no ration was made available to them at the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) Depot .
In the first week of September the State Government had formally started distribution of rations in the state as per 2011 census and the CA&PD Minister had marked the start of the new system by distributing rations to one Azad Ahmed of village Nagrota situated in his constituency.
Zahid Sagar, who led the protest said that the people of the area who belong to BPL have been forced to purchase ration at higher prices from open market and most of them finding hard to meet their daily requirements of ration.
"For the last few months no ration was supplied to the people in these areas under public distribution system (PDS), he said, further lamenting that people even were forced to purchase ration from open market on the occasion of auspicious Eid.
"It is ironical that people were forced to purchase ration from open market during the religious festivities" said Zahid Sagar.
He added that the matter has been raised several times with the district/tehsil administrations besides concerned officials of CA&PD department, but no action was taken in this matter.
Locals alleged not only them but the even the populace across the Rajouri district is also facing the shortage of ration at government shops as what to talk of remote areas the Rajouri city too facing the shortage of ration and ration supply was not available till October 20
"Yes, the people of Budhal have been facing the shortage of ration supplied by the government. Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) Kotranka has also been given additional charge of Rajouri area which has been creating hurdles in the proper supply of ration in affected area" said Sukhpal Singh, SDM, Kotranka Zone.
He added he will take up matter with Supply Officer on Monday to streamline the ration distribution in Kotranka zone.
