early times report JAMMU, Oct 24: In view of increasing number of violations of the Motor Vehicle Act, on the direction of Transport Minister, Abdul Ghani Kohli, Regional Transport Officer, A. K. Khajuria and his teams comprising of Mohammad Saleem ARTO and Punica ARTO flying Squad Jammu, conducted extensive checking of the vehicles in Jammu, Vijaypur and other parts on the National Highway and realized a fine of Rs.6.37 lakh from the violators/ defaulter under Motor Vehicles Act. During the extensive checking, about 263 number of vehicles comprising of buses, trucks and other load carriers were checked and about 155 vehicles were compounded on the spot by the teams. Besides this, about 30 vehicles were challened by the teams. These vehicles were challaned/compounded for the offence of overloading of the payload/passengers, violations of route permits conditions, pollution norms fitness and other misc. offence. Pertinent to mention here that the Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu has already initiated a special drive against auto Rikshaws for the implementation of the Auto Fare Meter and charging by them as per fare meters. To this effect, a fare chart of the important origination/destination points of Jammu city has been publicized by RTO Jammu. The general public/commuters are appealed to pay the auto charges as per fare meters of fare chart as issued by the RTO Jammu. The checking teams included Motor Vehicles Inspectors, Sajad Zaheer, Abnish Sharma, Vinod Chalotra, Surinder Kumar, Shammi Kumar and Param Veer Singh. RTO Jammu has further warned to the vehicle operators to strictly adhere to the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and rules framed there under, failing which they shall be booked under the relevant provisions of law. |
