Pak dichotomy resurfaces in Samba sector | | | Yet another case of dichotomy on the part of Pakistan which on pne side has been pleading for the resumption of bilateral dialogue with India but on the other hand has been found needling the Indian forces, guarding the LOC and the IB. Recently Pakistan Prime Minister had, during his meetings with the US leaders, including President Barack Obama, had sought US mediation for prompting and motivating New Delhi for opening the process of dialogue. How can India oblige Pakistan when either the Pak R angers or the Pak troops resort to intermittent ceasefire violations. And Nawaz Sharif had not left the shores of US when the Pakistani Rangers targeted about nine border outposts and some civilians areas in Samba district. Reports from the IB have revealed that the Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire again 'using gun and mortar, for targetting nine Border Outposts (BoPs) of BSF and civilians areas in Samba district along IB, leaving a labourer injured. After over a month-long lull, Pakistani troops resumed the ceasefire violations along the international border, killing one civilian and injuring three so far. "Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF posts along IB in Samba sector. The Rangers fired on nine BoPs of BSF along IB in areas between River Basantar and River Treva in Samba sector, he said, adding that they used 82, 82 and 51 mm mortar bombs at few places along IB.BSF troops guarding the borderline retaliated resulting in exchanges which continued for a couple of hours resulting in the death of a civilian and two others were injured. The ceasefire violations, which had become a routine, had stopped after the Director General (DG)-level talks between BSF and Pakistan Rangers on September 12. Official sources in Jammu said that there was no provocation from "our side" and it is not yet known what had provoked the Pak R angers for violating the ceasefire violations. The way the R angers violated the ceasefire agreement does spek volumes about the gap between the top officials of the Rangers and the soldiers. Had it not been the case the soldiers in the Pak Rangers would have honoured the agreement that had been reached between the DG BSF and the DG Rangers. One need feel surprised if Islamabad or for that matter the Army or the R angers in Pakistan started blaming the Indian forces for violating the ceasefire agreement on the IB. What is interesting and intriguing is the way India's suggestion conveyed to Pakistan umpteen times during the last over eight months, that New Delhi was prepared to reopen the channels of dialogue if Pakistan stopped aid, material and moral,to militants and abandoned using the soil of Pakistan for exporting terror to India, particularly to Jammu and Kashmir. It is part of the policy of Pakistan Government that on one hand it harps on the settlement of the Kashmir issue and in order to further internationalise the Kashmir issue the troops and the R angers in Pakistan resort to ceasefire violations. This way had Islamabad been interested in resolving all bilateral problems through negotiations it should have, by now, accepted New Delhi's plea for ending material and moral aid to militants, whether under training in arms camp in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir,or operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Let Washington take note of the latest development on the IB in Samba sector. |
