Differences continue to simmer within State BJP | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 25: Though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections hands down, State Unit of the Party continues to be marred by serious differences within the top leadership. According to sources the State, BJP is still a divided house with senior leaders maintaining their monopoly. This can be gauged from the fact that during the recent Dushhera function where the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh was the chief guest and BJP State president, Jugal Kishore Sharma, MoS Education, Priya Sethi MLAs of Jammu East and West Rajesh Gupta and Sat Sharma (CA) were invited but one of the senior leaders of BJP, Ashok Khajuria who is prominently seen in such functions was conspicuous by his absence. Sources said that Khajuria was not invited to the function as there are simmering differences between him and other party leaders in the State and one group of State leadership considers him close to, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and they are hell bent to sideline him and other members of his group. Not only during the Dusherra celebrations but Khajuria was not also present during the function organized by district BJP and one of his closest associates MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta. Though Partymen said that Khajuria was pre-occupied with a family function on that day but as a senior party leader he could have spared some time to attend the function which he did not. Sources said that a section within party leadership want to sideline the Jaitley lobby and maintain the monopoly of their group. This is the reason that they don't want to give much importance to this group. Khajuria as well as other leaders who are seen to be close to Union Finance Minister feel sidelined, sources said and during the time of allocation of Assembly seats Khajuria's name was not considered though being a senior leader. Later even he was not considered for the upper House but it was the personnel intervention of Arun Jaitley that his name was included in the list last time, sources added. Sources said not only Khajuria, Satish Sharma a senior leader from Billawar and some Partymen from Jammu are not acceptable to this group which included some MLAs also. Even last year Pawan Gupta who won from Udhampur Assembly segment was forced to contest the elections as independent as he was not acceptable to this group and his father was considered a close associate of Prof Chaman Lal Gupta who along with seven other MLAs was last time suspended from the party for cross alleged voting in 2010 MLC elections. |
