Govt identifies 4000 kanals for AIIMS in Kashmir, nothing for Jammu as yet | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has given nod to the establishment of AIIMS in Kashmir valley with the land for the purpose identified in Mufti's bastion, south Kashmir. What would set the cat among pigeons is Government's inaction in identifying land in Jammu for the similar purpose. Top sources within the Government revealed that more than 4000 kanals of land have been identified by the divisional administration of Kashmir for the setting up of AIIMS campus there. The land, interestingly, finalised for the purpose is located at South Kashmir's Awantipora area. South Kashmir has been a strong hold of the PDP since 2002 with the party at every election time registering a remarkable triumph over its 16 assembly constituencies. The land wherein AIIMS in Kashmir will be established is situated in close vicinity of Islamic University. Sources divulged that the revenue ministry has itself persuaded the matter with the health department and has also sought clearance for the construction of AIIMS building there. "We have kept in mind the atmosphere which is necessary for the hospital. All the required formalities have been completed and the work will be started very soon," said a senior officer in the Government. What is more ironic is that the BJP which claims to be representing the Jammu region in the State hasn't muttered a word over the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu at the same time when it is being established in Kashmir. A senior official said that there has been no forward movement vis-a-vis the identification of the land in Jammu for AIIMS. "Though the Government has a plethora of land available in Jammu, there has, ironically, been no latest development wherein chances of Jammu witnessing AIIMS besides Kashmir at the same time, could be witnessed," official said while pleading anonymity. In his letter to State, a senior Union Health Ministry official has Stated that in view of "expediting" the process of establishment of AIIMS, two teams have been constituted to finalise the sites and the State Government has been advised to identify pieces of land measuring 200 acres each in both Jammu and Srinagar. The move came after Health Minister JP Nadda held a meeting and directed officials to send such a letter so that the issue can be expedited. "The letter says that 200 acre land should be identified in both the regions. The decision on this issue was taken by the Health Minister himself," a senior Health Ministry official had said while confirming the development. He was quoted further as saying that the meeting was a follow up of the meeting held earlier between the Health Minister and a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation which had met Nadda included State Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, Health Minister Lal Singh, State BJP president Jugal Kishore Sharma, party J&K affairs in charge Avinash Rai Khanna and general secretary Narendra Singh. |
