Srinagar, Oct 26: Demand for central relief package for the people hit by last year's floods intensified after a major quake shook the Kashmir Valleyon Monday.
Sources in the administration said that after fresh damage to public and private property across the state due to the quake, all administrative heads have been directed to submit assessment reports at an earliest. They said the assessment reports of all departments shall reach to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed within a week after thoroughly scrutinized by Chief Secretary B.R Sharma and Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Later, a report will be submitted to the centre for financial assistance.
Meanwhile, Mufti has passed instructions for establishing a control room which will collect information from across the state related to loss of life or damage to property and has directed to provide relief to the needy. Notably, the state government has already sent a proposal of Rs 44,000 crore relief package to union government after floods hit J&K in September last year. However, even after more than a year, the flood affectees still await assistance from New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit J&K on November 7and it is believed in many circles that he may announce relief package for the flood hit.
