Day 5: Border residents migrate to safer places due to ceasefire violations in Kathua, Samba
Villagers questions fate of BJP's much hyped tall claims of '5 marlas plot in safer areas'

Kathua/Samba, Oct 26: At least 300 people migrated to safer places identified as camps/temples after heavy damaged was reported to residential houses and standing crops at forward villages in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district while border people in Samba district also began migrating to safer places following continuous heavy firing and mortar shelling by the Pakistan Rangers on fifth consecutive day.
The migration has been reported from Mawa, Bainglar, Manguchak, Sadoh Camp, Suchetpur, Chak Druma, Chachwal, Chak Sadda, Sadwal and Khora in Samba sector while in migration has been reported in Hiranagar of kathua from Bobiya, Bhatti, Lodwal and Krol villages falling along International Border (IB). The villagers took the step after the administration issued the advisory to vacate their homes to avoid heavy mortar shelling by the Pakistan, reports said.
The migration began some days back when Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire and also targeted the civilian areas in forward villages. Keeping in view the current situation along border, the Government has declared holidays to schools and postponed the terminal examination. However local alleged despite heavy firing along International Border (IB), District Kathua administration yet has to take initiative and provide basic facilities in migrant camps.
Beer Singh, a border villager said villages have been turned into 'ghost towns" as people migrated to safe places and abandoned their houses in panic. He said people seek permanent respite from frequent cross border firing which not only affects their livelihood but affects schooling of students too.
Rajinder Kumar General Secretary Border Residents Union said district administration yet to take favorable steps to provide due facilities to people at migration camps. He said people moved without any transportation facility after panic gripped in villages.
Mohan Lal, a social activist said people moved to temples in Hiranagar and temple management are arranging their accommodation besides providing other basic facilities but district administration and State government still are in deep slumber.
Meanwhile Dr Manmohar Lal Sharma, Sr Congress leader, Former MoS accompanied with Subash Gupta Former MLC, Girdhari Lal Chalotra Former MLA Hiranagar visited the affected villages and reviewed the existing position. Congress expressed concern over ceasefire violation and lashed both Union and state government for failing to extend a helping hand to affected people. They ridiculed BJP and said BJP promised to provide plots to each border affected family in safe places but nothing has been done till day.
When contacted to ADDC Kathua, S Manmohan Singh assured administration keenly is handling the affairs and added district administration has convened meeting with officials of all government departments to provide apposite facilities to migration camps. He said administration will provide all possible facilities to border migrants at various places identified as 'migration camps'.
He also informed that district administration has instructed education department to declare holidays in schools situated near IB and postponement of terminal tests.
Meanwhile the Residents of border villages in Samba district began migrating to safer places following continuous heavy firing and mortar shelling by the Pakistan Rangers.
Many families from Mawa, Bainglar, Manguchak, Sadoh Camp, Suchetgarh, Chak Druma, Chachwal, Chak Sadda, Sadwal and Khora in Samba migrated to safer places on Monday afternoon due to frequent targeting of civilian areas by Pakistan Rangers. The villagers took the step after the administration issued the advisory to vacate their homes to avoid heavy mortar shelling by the Pakistan.
The administration has set up relief camps at Narsingh Temple Ghagwal, Nonath Ashram and Community Hall at Kalibari including some Government schools in Samba. One such relief camp was set up in the Government High School at Rehian in Samba wherein 80 families comprising 275 members had taken shelter. The residents here, meanwhile, have kept their fingers crossed praying that the ceasefire violations do not escalate and they resume normal life.
Border people like Kishore Sharma asked the fate of much hyped 'plots at safer places' and said although Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) during parliamentary and assembly polls had promised to allot 5 marlas plot to each family living along IB and even Dr Jatendra Singh had announced plots in safe place on the behalf of PM but none knows the fate of those plots in safer areas.
Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda said, "We made an appeal to the people to move to safer areas as the situation continues to be volatile on the border.
More than 1,000 people have taken shelter in various temporary relief camps established to accommodate the border migrants, DC Samba said, adding, "we have made all the necessary arrangements for the border migrants and senior officers of district administration were deployed as camp officers to monitor these camps.
