J&K bank Executive, ors sentenced in dowry case

Jammu, Oct 26: Sub Judge Special Mobile Magistrate Jammu today sentenced an Associate Executive of J&K Bank for dowry harassment case. According to sources, an FIR number 17/2011 was registered at police station women cell Jammu against Amit Gupta, his brother Sanjeev Gupta and mother Chanchala Gupta all resident of Pacca Danga Jammu under section 498-A/506/406/34 RPC. "Amit Gupta, an Associate Executive of J&K Bank had allegedly been harassing his wife since long time, the victim reported at PS women cell on July 17, 2011 against her husband and others", sources said.
The accused persons are convicted for commission of offences under section 498-A/506 RPC. They were accordingly sentenced to simple imprisonment for the period of one year for commission of offence under section 498-A RPC and six months for commission of offence under section 506 RPC with fine of Rs 10,000 each. In default of payment of fine, accused shall undergo simple imprisonment for further period of three months. According to complaint, the accused persons made many attempts to kill the victim.
"They made many attempts to kill the complainant in such a manner as if it was an accident, but they failed to do so because of the alertness of the victim, compelling and blackmailing the complainant to commit suicide", copy of complaint read.
It further said that all these incidents forced the complainant to leave her matrimonial house. "The victim left her husband's house without any belongings in order to save her life which was in danger due to cruelty of accused persons", the complaint read.
