Udhampur Oct 26: It may sound weird but is a bitter truth- a village in Panjar village declared by BJP-PDP coalition government to be developed as 'modern village' yet is deprived off water , electricity supply and other basic amenities.
According to local reports, the residents of Chunal village in Panjar block of Tehsil Mongri are facing acute problems of water and electric supply these days after passage of months after formal announcement of developing Panjar as Model village.
Koshal Kumar, a villager told early Times that there are about 200 houses in this village with a population of over thousand people but the supply of water and electricity in this village is almost negligible.
He also lamented that though there are two schools in the village-one Govt High School Panjar and the Govt Primary School Chunal but both schools are lacking facility for drinking water apart from other basic facilities. "Even there is not a water storage tank in these schools," he added.
Ramesh Singh, Sarpanch of Chunal Panjar Panchayat said that there is a PHE water tank and water filter point at a distance of 100 meters from the village but it supplies water to the village Kalsoth which is about 5 kms away but neglecting the area just at a distance of 100 meters for the reasons better known to the authorities at the helms of affairs.
The Sarpanch further said that that they have repeatedly complained to the PHE and PDD authorities in regard to irregular supply of water and electricity to their village but all these fell to deaf ears till date.
"The concerned JE of PDD many times assured them that a transformer will soon be given to the village apart from poles, he said, adding, "but nothing appeared on the ground till date."
It is pertinent to mention here that the government has announced Panjar to be developed as modern village after the landslides triggered by flash floods due to heavy rains last year unleashed devastation in this area in September last year.
When contacted, AEE -PDD Surinder Gupta said that under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana the village will be electrified soon.
AEE -PHE, Ashish Gupta also giving a hopes villagers told this reporter over phone that he will personally check the situation in the village and further assured that the village will soon get regular supply of drinking water.
