10/27/2015 1:03:05 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 26: In order to press for the demand of extending 77th, 81st and 85th Amendment Acts of Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir State so that the benefits of promotion could be provided to the Scheduled Casteas (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a protest march here tday.
Led by their state president Tarsem Khullar along with Ex-MLC from UP and State Coordinator, J&K and Himachal Pradesh M L Tomar, thousands of BSP activists as well as people from different walks of life participated in the march.
The protest rally started from Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk and culminated at Raj Bhawan with handing over of a memorandum in support of reservation to the Governor.
Numerous socio-cultural organizations also participated in the rally along with their supporters. While speaking on the occasion, Tarsem Khullar informed that the BSP has demanded immediate calling of special session of the State Legislature for extending 77th, 81st and 85th Amendment Acts of Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir State so that the situation in the matters of promotion in employment arising as a result of Court orders could be negated.
He disclosed that the forces within and outside the Government are part of a greater conspiracy to deprive the underprivileged sections of their genuine rights. He appealed the judiciary to resist such tactics and not fall prey to such conspiracy.
He further stated that the reservations for SCs, STs and backward sections was not a charity but a matter of according representation to the people who were traditionally deprived of education, means of livelihood and safety.
Khullar criticized the previous government of Congress and National Conference for befooling the SCs, STs and OBCs by making half hearted adhoc arrangements and sitting over the matter for full tenure of six years without extending 77th, 81st and 85th Amendments to the State. Speaking on the occasion, M L Tomar, said that the BSP shall continue to espouse the cause of backward sections and minorities.
