MVD launches anti- overloading drive, imposes Rs 90,000 fine | | | early times report Kathua, Oct.31: Following the Supreme Court's direction against overloading, Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Kathua today launched intensified Anti- overloading drive on National Highway at both Rajbagh and Bagiyal wherein department offloaded several overloading vehicles besides imposing heavy fine. The sleuths of MVD realized a fine amounting to Rs 90,000/-- from the erring drivers and released the vehicles with instructions not to overload next time. While interacting to media, Amarjeet Singh Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kathua, said that the department today launched a drive at large scale and no vehicle will be left unchecked in future. Singh said Apex Court and JK Transport Minister have passed strict instructions against Overloading of load carriers that used to move outside or inside the state through different entry points of state in district Kathua. RTO also added that the drive is not meant for collecting revenue but minimize the overloading that affect road more than usual weight besides easy cause of incidents. He added that 350 vehicles have been off loaded within short period, more of these vehicles stayed for several days for clearance from department. RTO sought weighing widget at RTO office Lakhanpur that would make the work more effective to minimize overloading. Meanwhile ARTO Kathua said 27 vehicles have been challenged today as department has taken strict view on overloading. He added that the drive will be continued in future till commuters themselves abandon overloading. |
