SRINAGAR, Oct 31 : Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) clinched the IIIrd State Handball Championship after they beat fighting Jammu district 24-19 in the final played at Showket Ali Stadium in district Baramulla under the banner of J&K Handball Association. Govind played well from winning JKP side while Neeraj contributed a maximum of six goals to the Jammu district tally. Third place went to hosts district Baramulla who beat STC XI 20-18. Earlier, Jammu district outplayed Baramulla in the women's final 14-07. Megha remained highest scorer from Jammu with seven goals. In the final and valedictory function, Minister for Law, Basharat Ahmed Bukhari was chief guest, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. District Development Commissioner Baramullah, Yasha Mudgal and Secretary, State Sports Council, Javed Shah were guests of honour. Speaking to the gathering, Bukhari announced a cash prize of Rs 15000 for the winners and Rs 10,000 for the runners-up teams as also Rs 5,000 for each participating teams. This three-day championship was organised by J&K Handball Association and sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council under the supervision of Association secretary, Ashwani Raina, who earlier welcomed the distinguished guests. Among others present were Krishan Lal Sharma, Mohammed Ashraf Parray, Nissar Ahamed, Sanjeev Jamwal, SSP Baramulla, Chief Sports Officer of State Sports Council Hazi Abdul Qayoom, Vipan and Kesar. |
