Doda, Nov 4: Locals who are regular commuters national highway and other peripheral roads in District Doda are irked by the frequent traffic snarls caused due to poor road connectively and want due action from the district administration to regulate traffic as it plays havoc with the travel plans of many villagers residing in the nearby areas.
Locals lamented that although the number of vehicles has increased manifold in the district, roads across the district have not been upgraded for last ten years which has messed up traffic in the entire district.
Accusing the local administration and state government of not paying any heed to their woes, irked locals said, "Despite repeated pleas the towns like Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Prem Nagar, Pranoo, Bhalla, Assar, Khellani and Pull Doda witness more vehicles on roads at bottle necks instead of public moving on roads ."
Manish a student said, "students are the worst affected by these congestions as they always get late due to serial jams at various places before reaching to school or their college. Narrating his own ordeal, he said that to reach to his college at Nagri Doda from Akramabad, he has to pass through busy and often vehicle clogged roads and for this he has to add up some extra half an hour to his actual journey time to reach to college in time."
Locals also lamented that the problem has taken an ugly turn in absence of proper parking spaces as well as dedicated stand for the passenger vehicles as majority of private vehicles are seen parked on road side.
Imtiaz Zargar a shopkeeper said, "Road side stands for different vehicles have been setup by the administration in connivance with some traders to just appease them but this instead of becoming a convenience is turning a inconvenience to locals causing traffic jams.
Another local from Bhaderwah, Uttma Devi, alleged that the administration has resorted to pick and choose while widening of the main Bhaderwah market roads "which is also becoming the cause of tragic accidents at times".
Locals as well as shoppers sought intervention of Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of (Traffic) Police to make on-the-spot assessment of the Bhaderwah market to streamline the traffic and demanded that light vehicles should be directed to park vehicles at new bus stand where space is available.
