Rana sermons on communal harmony | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 4: National Conference Provincial president for Jammu, Devender Rana has delivered a sermon on tolerance. He exhorted youth to play their crucial role in combating growing tendencies of intolerance and hate, saying societal renaissance holds key to bind communities and regions together, especially in a diverse state like Jammu and Kashmir. Yes, fringe can't hold the society to ransom and tear apart the glorious and time-tested unity. The people of Jammu Kashmir proved it in 2008 when some "fringe elements conspired in Rana's house to disrupt peace and tranquility." The people of Jammu Kashmir have always rejected politicians who tried to hit hard at age old communal harmony. When Kashmir was a hot bed of militancy, Rana's boss used to issue statements against the hapless people. At one time he said," Kashmiri ko goli maro." Rana also made a mention of unemployment and honour of the students. He seems to have forgotten the much criticized employment policy of the former government led by his `friend' Omar Abdullah. The policy reduced the unemployed youth to the level of beggars. And lastly, Rana's adivse to students to take part in politics has been taken with a pinch of salt especially in the Valley. When Sheikh Abdullah's deputy signed the 1975 accord, the students became the first casualty. Many were taken into custody. He also banned schools run by a particular religious organization marring the career of around fifty thousand students. |
