Ahead of PM’s rally, Police crack whip on trouble mongers | Block social media pages, scores detained | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 4: With just two days left for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address a rally in Srinagar, Police have cracked a whip on trouble mongers who were using different means, including social media, to garner support for the million march called by Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Sources told Early Times that the security agencies have compiled a list of the trouble mongers, stone pelters and those who use social media to circulate separatist views in Kashmir. " Soon after the list was prepared police detained scores of suspects," they added. "We check the track record of suspects before detaining them. We have tightened the noose around the trouble mongers who were trying to instigate the people ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kashmir," said an official. Sources within the Home Department revealed that the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is himself supervising all the preparations and steps being taken to ensure that PM's rally passes off peacefully. "Meetings are being held frequently to review the arrangements for the rally. Every evening SSP Srinagar chairs the meeting of SPs and SHOs of various police stations of Srinagar and the Government is being apprised about all the developments," sources said. Meanwhile, the security agencies have established a separate cell wherein the social media is keenly being monitored. There are systems put in place to track down anyone who is found campaigning against Modi's November 7 rally and also who tries to garner support for the million march which the separatist Syed Ali Geelani has called to counter Prime Minister's rally. Sources said that besides the separatist workers and activists, there are scores of youth who have been kept under preventive custody for promoting Geelani's million march. A police officer told Early Times that the security agencies have been given strict instructions to keep a close eye over those who try to vitiate atmosphere via the social media at present. Sources also informed that several pages and profiles have already been blocked on twitter and facebook which were found involved in anti- national activities. The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has already expressed his concern over Geelani's call for a million march, terming it a wrong measure. "Modi is the PM; he cannot be met with defiance and confrontation at all times," Mufti had said recently. |
