Omar's high moral ground purely for returning to power? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 16: Ex-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's taking of high moral ground by first praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and later, accepting the invitation from JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar's invitation to attend swearing-in ceremony speaks in volumes about him having learnt not much from the debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and later in the Assembly elections. Omar lavished praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delivering an excellent speech in the British Parliament. He did this at a time when the nation was waiting with abated breath to hear the Prime Minister criticizing the rough elements who had created an atmosphere of fear across the country. A debate on intolerance was going on across the country and in jumped Omar first expressing remorse over the rising intolerance and later praising the Prime Minister. Little did Omar realize that the electorate he represents did not take this praise merrily and instead, wanted the ex-CM to make the Prime Minister realize need for taking entire country on-board. He even had no idea that despite the announcement of package, the electorate he represents was not happy for the simple reason that there was nothing for those who had suffered extensively due to floods. And what made this praise look politically incorrect was the timing. Omar should have refrained from commenting and waited to see how the British media responds to the speech made by the Prime Minister. He did not and instead, tweeted lavishing praise on the Prime Minister, a person whose vision he had been questioning from day 1. Observers maintain that NC which has been out of power is making desperate efforts to somehow again return to the seat of power and it is in this context that Omar has been praising every move of the Prime Minister. They said that a particular group of officials and BJP leaders are trying to create some space for National Conference (NC) so that as and when, there is an ideological clash with PDP, they could ally with Abdullahs. They further said that these officials and BJP leaders are working overnight to fix meetings of NC leaders with BJP top brass. Though this could not be confirmed from NC but the fact remains that desperation is visible on the faces of the leadership of the party. About accepting the invitation of Nitish Kumar, observers maintain that the same has been accepted to keep Congress also in good humour, with whom NC shared power in the state as well as in New Delhi for six long years. They further say that power is the ultimate goal of every political party. "Omar has all the reasons to keep BJP happy while ensuring that Congress does not get annoyed. Mufti has prowess to keep BJP in check but if BJP allys with NC, things would go topsy-turvey," added an observer. |
