Ministers, officials accused of accommodating workers | Flood sufferers list tampered | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag/Kulgam Nov 16: A week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced economic package for the state and the flood hit people, revenue authorities in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir in order to accommodate blue-eyed workers have tampered the flood sufferers list. Highly placed sources said that tampering with the records is being done by the revenue officials on behest of ruling party leaders and a few ministers. "Since October 2014 we have verified the list of flood sufferers thrice still we are being asked to re-verify the list while as more and more people are being accommodated," a revenue official posted in Kulgam pleading anonymity told Early Times. In Anantnag, the district administration has too asked Tehsildar Anantnag, Bijbehara and others to re-verify the list. Sources said that after the announcement of economic package by Prime Minister more and more people are approaching respective Tehsildars with written applications for compensation. They said that agents affiliated with political parties are bribing the clerical staff of Tehsils to get accommodated their aides in the list. A local from Sethar area of Bijbehara told Early Times that he has in procession the documents which prove that Tehsildar Bijbehara has compensated one family four times for a single house. "Just for one house Couple and their two sons have separately received the compensation amount," he claimed, however the authenticity of the documents available with this newspaper wasn't ascertained. Many flood sufferers in Anantnag expressed apprehensions about the last minute change and asked administration to make the list of flood sufferers available on internet and departmental website. They also sought intervention of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. |
