NC using traders to spread canards about PM's economic package | Party distributed relief among its workers, left victims in lurch | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing Rs 80,000 crore package for the development of Jammu and Kashmir has sent the opposition National Conference into tizzy, now it's looking for ways and means to corner the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by asking a handful of businessmen in Kashmir to criticize the financial package to create uncertainty. Sources told Early Times that NC has roped in a few businessmen and has asked them to launch a tirade against PDP to make people believe that Rs 80,000 Crore package is nothing but eyewash. "These people have been told that they should make masses believe that PDP imposed elections on masses when conditions were unfavourable and New Delhi has not given substantial amount for the rehabilitation of the flood victims," sources said. They said the NC and its few supporters want to create confusion among the masses that flood victims have been left in lurch by the PDP and the Central Government. "When the floods inundated Kashmir initial assessment was made on the basis of how many houses were hit by the floods. That time all the houses which had submerged under flood waters were counted. All the houses which had suffered minor damages were provided initial compensation. In the final list only those houses have been counted which had suffered major damage or had collapsed due to floods. This has been done to ensure that victims who lost everything in September 2014 deluge do get something as compensation. People who didn't face any major loss have been left out of the list," said a source. Sources alleged when NC was in power it ensured that relief sanctioned by the Central Government reaches its workers rather than flood victims. "PM announcing Rs 80,000 Crore package has robbed the NC of its agenda and now its spreading canards to create uncertainty,' the source said. He said, "Truckloads of relief reached the flood hit areas but the people who were in power at that point of time left no stone unturned to ensure that material reaches the selected people only." Sources said that a few traders who are raising hue and cry about business community being ignored seem to have forgotten that most traders were compensated by the insurance companies and they received huge amounts. "The losses suffered by big business houses in Srinagar and other areas were compensated but the people running small business who had no insurance cover are the real sufferers. The relief sanctioned by Central Government should reach them so that they are able to restart their shattered lives," they added. Sources claimed that traders at the behest of National Conference are raking up non-issues to somehow prevent the financial aid from reaching the needy and to portray PDP as an anti-Kashmir party. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Srinagar visit made it clear that this package is just a beginning and if JK Government spends this money judiciously Centre would pump in more money to ensure JK's development. |
