Stop criticising Govt for the sake of criticism
12/4/2015 9:11:51 PM
The National Conference argument that by implementing the National Food Security Act the PDP-BJP coalition Government had further weakened the special status, enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 does not hold any water because if there has been gradual erosion in the original spirit of the special status it has happened during the time the National Conference has been in power in the State. The National Conference has remained in power for more than 34 years since 1947 and during this period several hundred laws were extended to the State. These laws were made applicable to the State of Jammu and Kashmir only after securing approval from the State legislature. This way the National Conference does not have any political, moral or constitutional right to blame the PDP-BJP coalition Government for weakening the special status by allowing to extend the National Food Security Act. Another issue that the National Conference has tried to use for berating the coalition Government is the possible delinking of several lakh of people from food security Act. In this connection the State Government has explained that before the implementation of the FSA only 12 lakh people would receive rice and wheat atta at the rate of Rs.3 and Rs.2 per kg but once the FSA was enforced about 74.13 lakh people would be benefitted.
Opposition National Conference termed implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State as another step of Mufti Sayeed- led government to weaken the special status of J&K while Congress and BJP have welcomed the move and PDP saying that 74.13 lakh people would benefit from it. The decision to implement NFSA in J&K infringes special status of the State. This decision again proves that Mufti is implementing RSS agenda. But the National Conference leadership know that the FSA had been adopted by the Parliament during the time Congress led UPA was in power. The NC has Termed the cabinet decision as unjustifiable, as it would prove counterproductive for the special status of J&K.This act was not implemented by previous Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress government after keeping its ramification into consideration. However, senior Congress leader and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saifuddin Soz has welcomed the implementation of NFSA in the State. All credit for NFSA must be given to the Congress. It would have been implemented earlier but due to the political reasons, NC did not let it happen.
The PDP-BJP Government should ensure that no section of the society is left out.
Senior PDP leader and Minster for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Chowdary Zulfiqar Ali said after the implementation of the NFSA in the State, about 74. 13 lakh people would benefit from it.
The Government has identified 24 categories of people who are living poorest-of-poor life in the State. They will be given rice and flour at the rate of Rs 3, Rs 2 respectively under this Act.Ali has said at present only 12 lakh people are being given rice and flour on these rates but once the NFSA is implemented around 74. 13 lakh people would be benefitted. It seems that there is scope for amending the NFSA so that more people were able to secure the benefit of Central Act.Once it does happen people may support the coalition Government's decision to make the Central Act applicable to the State. It can happen if a small percentage of rich people are delinked from the benefits of the NFSA.
If during the last 35 years several hundred Central laws were extended to the State of Jammu and Kashmir it was done simply in the interests of people. And those very laws were made applicable to the State of Jammu and Kashmir which had the potential of helping people. If the National Conference had peoples' interest in mind while allowing various Central laws to get extended to Jammu and Kashmir why cannot it allow the PDP-BJP coalition Government to make NFSA applicable to the State when 74.13 lakh people will get the benefit of cheap ration ?Let the NC stop criticizing the coalition Government for the sake of criticism.
