Health Minister removes Dr Ghanshyam as GMC Jammu principal

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 4: In another brazen example of my way or highway, Health and Medical Education Minister did what suited to his convenience by posting his blue-eyed person on an important post.
In a major overnight reshuffle, Dr Zahid Gillani from Srinagar was posted as principal Government Medical College Jammu while the earlier incumbent Dr Ghanshaym Dev was sent back to his earlier position as HoD Radiology.
Though it is being understood in the medical circles as just another reshuffle, highly placed sources said that since the coronation of the Health and Medical Education Minister nine months back, including his other misadventures which the media has projected at many times, removal of Ghanshyam Dev was on his priority list which had been giving him uneasy churns.
"It was Dr Ghanshayma only who held his position in the GMC as the principal of highest esteem and admiration who never budged to the illegitimate desires of the minister that had made him as the apple of discord for the minister. The minister's unease with Ghanshaym had made the former to create a wedge between Ghanshyam and the medical fraternity which never fructified," said the source.
Dr Zahid Gillani was appointed as new principal of the GMC Jammu in addition to professor and head pharmacology department and nodal officer of upcoming new medical collage at Rajouri. Outgoing principal Dr Ghansham Dev, professor and head radio diagnosis, was relieved from the additional charges, which was temporarily assigned to him.
It is however, of great significance that during Taj Mohi-ud-Din's tenure as the Health Minister under NC-Congress regime, it was Ghanshyam Dev only who was cynosure of Taj's eyes as the then minister had wanted an upright and highly morale person to head the institution regarding the health care of the region.
"At that time also Dr Zahid Gillani had made many an attempt to scuttle the peace and harmonious execution of health services to overrule Ghanshaym's stature but to no avail. Under the incumbent Health Minister, it had become quite obvious that Ghanshyam would be removed to pave way for Gillani," said the source.
Immediately taking over of the charge Gillani came out with most awe-inspiring assurances "The four operation theatres which were shut for some time due to unspecified reasons will immediately be made functional. These operation theaters will be specifically dedicated to the emergency wing", he said and added that shortly, an independent intensive care unit will be added in the emergency wing to further augment the wing. Also an attendants retiring area will be created along the casualty wing".
"The services in the wards will significantly be improved. Though we are facing manpower shortage but the paramedics and nurses services will be put to optimum use and we will pursue our case more vigorously with recruiting agencies," said Dr Gillani.
A highly qualified and placed doctor in GMC on condition of anonymity however said, "It is now upto the fourth estate of the state to act as a watchdog over Gillani and Health Minister. Skeletons will start tumbling out soon".
