Anantnag, Dec 4: The award winning Health department, which claims to have taken measures for providing quality healthcare facilities to people across the state, has failed to provide basic facilities to the hospital in Chief Minister's hometown-Bijbehara.
Despite protests, the Health department has not been able to replace the X-Ray machine, which is lying defunct according to hospital sources.
The department has not fixed the problem in ultra-sound apparatus that has some glitch and alters the final result of the investigation.
According to hospital sources, Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara sans almost all the latest healthcare equipments due to which people particularly Bijbehara residents suffer.
Recently, 23 years old lady died after delivering a dead baby due to non-availability round the clock Operation Theatre. Ironically the deceased, a gynecology patient was attended by a dermatologist. Although as reported earlier, the lady doctor insisted that she was forced to attend night duties but so far as no action against the staff and medical superintend who is, according to locals responsible for the mess in this health institution.
Earlier, a youth Mukhtar Ahmad also died in the hospital because of the non-availability of health facilities.
A few days ago, in a novel way, Bijbehara citizen's forum fitted a banner on the front gate of Sub-District Hospital, declaring it a community health center.
"In a hospital where skin doctors are attending Gynaecology patients in less than a community center," Bijbehara residents told Early Times.
Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local resident said that it unfortunate that their protests against the authorities and health department go unnoticed.
He said that people will intensify the protests if department failed to provide the basic faculty and facilities to the hospital.
According to reports, Bijbehara Citizen's Council has decided to keep Bijbehara, including commercial establishments and schools, open oncoming Sunday as a mark of protest against the official apathy towards SDH.
