Seminar on Pahari Heritage of Jammu region organised

Jammu, Dec 4: Himalayan Heritage Foundation organized a seminar in collaboration with State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari Speaking People on the theme "Pahari Heritage of Jammu Region" to sensitize the stakeholders about the significance of their heritage.
While speaking on the occasion, Kuldeep Raj Gupta,Vice chairman, State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari Speaking People said,"Pahari heritage and culture is a comprehensive way of life that includes rich traditions and assets in terms of both monuments and religious places. These assets are the living examples of the colourful treasures that we have inherited from our ancestors; who have given us rich legacy to be proud of. Board is well aware of its responsibility to uphold the Pahari heritage of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and this seminar on the Pahari heritage of Jammu region is the commencement of our mission to showcase this rich legacy and Board will leave no stone unturned to develop policy to safeguard it."
Mahesh Kaul, Chairman, Himalayan Heritage Foundation, said, "Pahari heritage of Jammu region is a complete repository of the human development that signifies its cultural evolution over the centuries. The need is to integrate all the assets both tangible and intangible to develop a complete heriatge circuit in the Pahari belt of Jammu.
Before that international guidelines developed by the organizations like ICOMOS,ICCROM and UNESCO need to be implemented to identify and document and strategize the measures to create a heritage gaze .The policies have to be made in such a way that these lay emphasis on community development and reduce the chances of conflict among the tourist managers and heritage experts. Besides Pahari heritage has great significance in the Himalayas both in strategic and cultural terms"
Seminar was followed by an interactive session in which scholars, members of the civil society, students and officials of the various Advisory Boards took part.
