Police busts fake travel agency, arrests one

Srinagar, Dec 4: Tourist Police has busted a fake travel agency in the summer capital Srinagar by arresting the main accused, police said here today.
Police received many complaints about a travel agency duping several tourists by promising them fake tour packages, a police spokesman said.
He said on November 20, 2015, an FIR under Tourist Trade Act and 420 Ranbir Penal code was registered in Police Station Tourist Reception Centre, Srinagar against the travel agency under the name of 'Sameer Tour and Travels'.
The agency was run under a fake name, Sameer Ahmed Bhat, and a fake address in Balgarden area of the city here.
During preliminary investigation of the case, it came to light that the accused had opened a bank account in Union Bank of India, Court Road Srinagar by using fake identity in the name of Sameer Ahmed Bhat, the spokesman said.
He said the accused had also developed a website and obtained three sim cards using forged documents.
During further investigation under the supervision of SP Enforcement, the main accused Umar Shah, a resident of Kakowthal Kreeri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla was arrested, the spokesman said.
He said an amount of Rs 1.25 lakhs, one Laptop, one smart phone, election cards and some documents, which were used by the accused in making fake travel agency and developing website, were recovered from his possession.
An FIR under various section of RPC and IT Act was registered against the accused and investigation was taken up, the spokesman said, adding the accused has been arrested and sent to Central Jail on judicial remand.
