KATHUA, Dec 5 : A team of officers led by Regional Transport Officer, Kathua, S Amarjeet Singh, conducted vehicle checking drive on National Highway and realized a fine of Rs. 4.06 lakh from the violators for various offences under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The team was comprised of ARTOs, Yaseer Arafat and Neeraj Sharma, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Kamal Kumar and Rajiv Kundal and MVTA Kulbushan Singh Slathia. More than 180 vehicles were challaned on the spot for overloading, violation of route permit conditions, fitness, pollution norms, dangerous driving and other offences. The department has also started the process of off loading the excess weight in compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court. In this regard, Transport Commissioner, P I Khateeb has already conveyed to all the stake holders to desist from the practice of overloading. In order to bring transparency and efficiency in the system, the Motor Vehicles Department, Kathua has already started the process of home delivery of Driving Licences through speed post which has reduced the frequent visits of the applicants to the office. In this regard, the RTO has appealed the public to deposit a self address envelope affixed with the postage stamps of Rs 15 in respect of Kathua town and Rs 35 in respect of other areas of the district with complete postal address at the time of submission of the application form at least a day prior to the day of trial. The applicant can choose any date for taking trial/test as per their convenience in accordance with the schedule already published by the office. |
