SOPORE (BARAMULLA), Dec 14: The killers of the snack vendor, who was stabbed to death outside his residence at Behrampora here on December 12 evening, have been arrested by police.
Ghulam Mohammad Tantray (45), son of Ghulam Ahmad, was stabbed to death by unknown persons at Behrampora area when he was on way to his home.
He was killed after he refused to marry his daughter with the prime accused, according to police sources.
Talking to media persons here today, North Kashmir DIG Garib Dass said the two accused involved in the incident had been arrested by police.
Soon after the murder, protests had erupted in the area, following which police had constituted a SIT under the supervision of SSP, Sopore, Abdul Qayoom. The SIT, headed by SDPO, Rafiabad, Shabir Ahmad, also included SHO of Dangiwacha Police Station as its member, the DIG said.
He said during investigation, the SIT picked two suspects -- Khurshid Ahmad Malla, son of Bashir Ahmad, and Zahid Ahmad Katroo, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Katroo -- both residents of Ambarpora Tarzoo, Sopore.
During questioning, they allegedly confessed to have murdered the snack vendor. Dass said the family of Khurshid wanted to make the victim's daughter as their daughter-in-law. However, when he refused, this frustrated Khurshid who then allegedly hatched a conspiracy with friend Zahid to eliminate Tantray, he added.
The DIG said on the December 12 evening when Tantray was nearing home, Khurshid and his friend allegedly attacked him in the neck, resulting in his death.
The attackers fled the spot after locals raised hue and cry. "The weapon of offence has also been seized," Dass said and added that the preliminary investigation had revealed that it was a planned murder.
A case under section 302 of RPC was registered at Police Station, Dangiwacha, Sopore in this regard, said DIG. |
