For Mehbooba ISIS is no threat to Kashmir | | | As president of the ruling Party, the PDP, and as daughter of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, Mehbooba Mufti is supposed to know inside story of the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir in the light of growing threat from terrorists of various hues.Assuming that Mehbooba knows better than anybody else hence one has to accept her sermon on ISIS.She says that ISIS is no danger in Jammu and Kashmir and by waving IS or Pakistani flags the activists were simply trying to attract attention and deviate peoples' attention from the real issues. Mehbooa's sermon on ISIS may not be a surprise for the top Army functionaries who have earlier stated that ISIS does not hold any major threat to Jammu and Kashmir and even if some of the ISIS activists try to infiltrate into Kashmir the troops and other security agencies had the strength to deal with them effectively. About ISIS, Mehbooa has said the militant group was not a threat to Kashmir and the waving of ISIS or Pakistani flags in the Valley was nothing put a publicity stunt aimed at grabbing media attention. One had no other option to believe her when she said that the ISIS does not represent Islam, because its activists are killing Muslims, To her ISIS has one philosophy of indulging in atrocities and the way they are active in muslim dominated countries indicates that the ISIS is a real threat to Islam and muslims.Another sermon of Mehbooba is that. Islam in Kashmir is different and teaches people to live with neighbours in peace and hence ISIS will never be a threat to Kashmir. She asked the media not to give publicity to such elements and recalled an incident of August 15. "There were nearly 20-25,000 people at the venue. We took a conscious decision of keep private television channels out of the venue. We were apprehensive that one of the TV channels will pass on a Pakistani flag or an ISIS flag to someone in the audience and then the focus will shift from the function and this visual will be repeated again and again. This would have followed by various debates and at the end we would have to hear that the nation wants to know..." she said as the audience in the hall burst into peals of laughter. And rightly the PDP president has suggested India to join hands with countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and even Bangladesh if these c ountries want to keep militant groups off their shores. As far as handling the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the Kashmir issue itself Mehbooba says...people learn gradually through experience. Jammu and Kashmir is not like any other state. India's relations with Pakistan have direct impact on people in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba has said there is no alternative to talks with Pakistan. India can avoid it or delay it but ultimately New Delhi has to do what the Foreign Minister Sushma (Swaraj) did by going to Islamabad because India and Pakistan have to fight the menace like ISIS, al-Qaeda. Well here one question could be asked to Mehbooba who has dilated on the need for reopening the channels of dialogue with Pakistan. First of all India has always been in favour of resuming bilateral talks with Pakistan but as far as Islamabad continues to use the soil of Pakistan for exporting terror to India New Delhi has reservation on reopening the doors of dialogue. Let Pakistan create an atmosphere which could prove conducive for bilateral talks. Now that New Delhi has initiated measures for resuming bilateral parleys it is the duty of Islamabad to stop provoking New Delhi forcing it to suspend the process of dialogue. The Kashmir issue is a vexed matter and it would be wrong for Islamabad to expect its resolution through a couple of rounds of talks. Yes, some opening can be expected if Pakistan abandons its obdurate stand on the issue by believing that Jammu and Kashmir is part of Pakistan. The instrument of Accession nullifies the UN resolutions on Kashmir and if Islamabad keeps it in view it can expect hassle free talks. |
