Aadhar Card not mandatory for applying new ration card: Zulfkar

Jammu, Dec 15: Pressing officers to speed up process of registration of rationees in the state, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department and Tribal Affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today said that although Aadhar card is important document yet it has not been made mandatory to apply for new ration card. He said that ration issue must not be politicized and those raising fingers must understand that the matter belongs to the poor and deserved people of the state.
Talking to media persons after chairing officers meeting here, Zulfkar Ali said that he had received some complaints about demand of Aadhar Card for registration. Clarifying it, the minister said that people don't need Aadhar cards to apply for new ration cards here as the department has not made it mandatory to come up with the Aadhar cards.
"We will provide ration cards to the people whether they have Aadhar cards or not as the same is not necessary to apply for new ration cards. The government has decided to provide ration cards to even those people who don't have ration cards," the minister said.
He said that they have informed officials in the department to don't ask for the Aadhar cards to the people who will apply for a ration cards.
The Minister has also said that confusion is being created among public that only BPL people will get ration under NFSA. He clarified that all people in priority and non priority will get ration and only Gazetted officers with high income and income tax payers are being excluded from the ration. However these people will also be given non rationee ration card.
The minister added that people should not heed to the rumors and they should remain satisfied that this decision is the historic decision of this term of Mufti government and it will surely benefit deserved people of the state.
Meanwhile, Zulfkar said that ration issue must not be politicized and those who are raising fingers must understand that the matter belongs to the poor and deserved people of the state.
He said that Food has now become right of the people and his department will provide food allowance in case department failed to provide food to any person. He said that this is a historic step of the Mufti led coalition government in the state.
