ULB elections: BJP MLAs not ready to take responsibility | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 15: Notwithstanding claims of the state BJP to seek votes on the performance of party ministers, fear gripped most of the BJP MLAs because there is feeling among party MLAs that it is difficult rather impossible for them to ensure victory of party in the coming Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections. Some MLAs have, reportedly, suggested state leadership to postpone the ULB polls till November this year. Credible sources in the BJP said that party leadership has given responsiblities to all MLAs to ensure victory of party in the ULBs in their respective constituencies but some of the MLAs have expressed their helplessness. "Some MLAs suggested that during the last nine months, BJP ministers have failed to come up to the expectations of the common masses, so it is in the interest of the party to get the elections delayed till party ministers win confidence of the people", sources quoted some MLAs said. Credible sources further said that some MLAs have clearly told the leadership that instead of putting responsbility on us to win ULB elections all ministers should be made responsible for winning elections of ULBs at any cost. Meanwhile BJP today said that it would showcase achievements of the coalition government to seek votes in the upcoming civic body elections in the state. "A series of programmes will be undertaken in the coming days under 'Mass Contact Campaign' as the party has decided to reach masses across the state to highlight the achievements of the PDP-BJP coalition government during the last nine months," BJP state general secretary, Narinder Singh told reporters here. He said that BJP had gone to the people to seek their votes with a promise of good governance, development and corruption-free administration and the people had reposed their faith in the party. After entering into coalition with PDP, the BJP ministers and MLAs have been working towards fulfilling their election promises, he said. Singh said that the state government has initiated a number of developmental projects for which the Centre has been providing liberal funds. |
