Govt under pressure not to touch illegal structures | ULB officials asked to mark buildings again | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 15: The tall claims of PDP-BJP government to pull down 10000 illegal structures in JK have hit a roadblock as officials have been asked to mark illegal buildings again. On Monday officials of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) were directed to mark illegal structures in Srinagar City for a second time so that action can be initiated against violators of Master plan after completion of marking. However the government by asking for fresh survey of illegal structures in Srinagar City has resorted to delay tactics, claimed a source. Pertinently, on March 13, 2015 Early Times on the basis of details with proof had informed Minister of State (MoS) for Housing and Urban Development, about 10,000 illegal structures erected by influential people over the years in Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister while admitting that illegal structures have been constructed and Master plan has been violated in urban areas like Srinagar, Jammu and Kathua districts in particular had assured to demolish all such structures and impose penalty on officials responsible for allowing illegal constructions of houses and shopping malls. He then also claimed that his government is coming up with a policy to deal with all the illegal constructions erected across JK by blue eyed people in nexus with corrupt officials during previous National Conference and Congress Government. Now after ten months all such illegal structures as per details available with Early Times stand tall across the state and government as per sources has been intimidated not to pull down structures of influential people in any part of the state. Credible sources informed Early Times that following Court orders to demolition illegal structures government has framed a policy in which only those illegal constructions that have come up before March 5, 2014 were scheduled to be considered for one time settlement and post March 5 were to be though regularized but with new rules and regulations only. However according to sources due to some political influence, the policy was kept under carpet and instead any action against violators of Master Plan government has asked the officials to reframe the list of violators of all such plans. Pertinently, locals here in Srinagar who faced wrath of floods last year due to illegal construction of residential and shopping malls around water bodies and conversion of residential areas in to commercial hubs are surprised to hear about delay tactics of state government time and again. Meanwhile, repeated attempts to contact Minister of state for Housing and urban Development, Muhammad Ashraf Mir went in vain as he did not pick up the phone. |
